The Federation of Community Social Services of BC (FCSS) - (formerly the Federation of Child and Family Services of BC), has been a provincial leader in the child, youth, adult and family serving field for 26 years.
In 2009, we changed our name to better reflect the diverse community enhancing services and supports that our member agencies provide throughout BC. We promote and support high quality services and are the collective voice for our diverse member agencies. Our province-wide network was established in 1982 and we recently celebrated our 26th year of practice with a new name, a new look, and the establishment of CORE-BC - The Centre for Dialogue and Learning on Child, Youth and Family Practice.
Our membership is made up of community agencies from all parts of British Columbia with annual budgets ranging from $50,000 to $25 million. We also have a number of associate members including provincial organizations, universities and colleges, accrediting bodies and a national research group, as well as a number of honorary members who have made outstanding contributions to our field.
We are governed by a board of directors made up of agency leaders elected by the members. Board positions include executive members (president, vice-president and secretary-treasurer), regional directors and directors at large. Regional directors represent the member agencies in each of the following five regions – North, Interior, Fraser, Vancouver Coastal and Vancouver Island. They coordinate regional events and meetings and ensure that regional issues are brought forward to the provincial board and meetings.
Directors-at-large deliver leadership in specific areas of practice and action, often chairing committees or working groups or serving as special advisors. Board membership reflects the diversity of our membership, including representation from small through to large agencies, unionized and non-unionized agencies, non-profit and proprietary organizations, and agencies that range from providing very specific services (e.g. sexual abuse counseling), to delivering multiple services.
